Back to the Drawing Board: Inanna

Hello everyone! I’ve been juggling two books in progress, but I managed to make time this weekend to get back to my roots (of sorts) and do some adult coloring. It all started when… /harp gliss

No, seriously. Front time to time I clear the notifications backlog on my Pinterest account, and one of them caught my eye. It was a drawing of Isis by Mitch Foust. (Go to my “Adult Coloring” board to see it and all of the other designs I have amassed.) I liked the drawing and wanted to use it as the basis for a mock-up of Inanna, who so isn’t Egyptian but we’ll work with what we have.

Here’s the finished product:

Inanna rendering

I used a blend of colored pencil and crayon on this drawing, with… (puts on sunglasses)… mixed results.

I really struggled with the hair. It’s supposed to be Very Dark Brown™ but because of the way I was building up the color profile she looked like a redhead for a while. I managed to darken it up a bit but if I did it over I’d go darker sooner.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know the story, I went from using coloring patterns to sketching things freehand to… writing a full-length novel over a span of a few months from 2016-2017. I’ve been writing almost exclusively, with the only other creative outlet being book cover design. It felt good to do something else and immerse myself in the creative process without it having to move product.

Anyway, back to the book writing! More updates as milestones are achieved.
